CHESS TOURNEY

RULES & GUIDELINES:

Blitz Chess uses the standard rules of chess but imposes a strict time limit. (Our rounds will be 5 minutes) The game is played on a physical board with two timed clocks, one for each player, which are pressed by the player after their move to stop their own clock and start their opponent's. If a player runs out of time, they lose the game, unless the opponent has insufficient material to achieve a checkmate, which results in a draw

• Players must complete all their moves within a total time limit, which can be from one to ten minutes, sometimes with a small "increment" of extra time added after each move. 

• Two chess clocks are used to track the time for each player. 

• The rules for moving pieces, capturing, and checkmating are the same as in standard chess. 

• If a player's clock reaches zero before they finish the game, they lose, unless their opponent does not have enough material to force a checkmate, resulting in a draw. 

• White makes the first move and starts the clock, which is then paused for black to make their move and press the clock. 

The tournament will be played in Round Robin style rounds. The rule is double elimination. This means that the first time you lose, you are not out. Please do not leave the event early! You can still have a chance to win, even if you lose! 

Further explanation of a Round Robin tournament: Players will play against every other participant in their bracket. The winner of the bracket (the player with the best record, meaning, most wins) will move on to compete against the winners of the other brackets. From there, it will be a semi final, and then a final competition.
